I went to visit your bones
and I did not find you there...
So I passed by my old childhood home
but it belongs to someone new to share.
The first place held no memories,
and the second, an uncountable number!
The decades since then feel like centuries;
as if I've just woken from deep slumber.
In the first touch of my autumn,
(as I will know my time, if I am blessed!)
I think I understand more now,
and yet somehow, also less.
How love can make us royalty
and fear can bring us to the brink
of danger or madness or cruelty...
connections becoming unlinked.
Though if love can reach across the stars
and back and forth through time,
I know that mine must reach you, Gramma.
And so, here ends the rhyme.
